Shevington School and Shevington.

Started by: alan cheetham (93)

Did anyone go to Shevington Secondary Modern school (now known as Shevington High) in the 1970s? Does anyone remember me or my brothers from Shevington or Shevington High?

Does anyone remember or know the whereabouts of Alan Radcliffe (Rackers) who attended Shevington High at the same and if I recall correctly lived in Parbold. He was a good mate and I have not seen him since we left. Would love to hear from him

I have lived in Germany for some 27 years now but still go home to Wigan regualarly at the weekend. I have so little time when I am there to find old friends.

Would love to hear from anyone who knows or remembers me.Also, if anyone's parents attended the school at this time please drop me a line. I may remember them.

Thanks.

Alan

Hi Emma,

There are 6 sons of which I am the 4th. All my brothers still live in Wigan and of course have children. My brothers' names are as follows:

Edmund
Anthony
Ian
Alan
Neil
Andrew

Edmund, Anthony and Ian lived at 79 Crooke Village before the family moved to Inward Drive, Shevington.

Hi Harold,

My Dad , Edmund Cheetham was the coal man. Sadly deceased now. My second eldest brother Anthony is now the coal man. He took over the family business and lives at what was once Beech Hill farm.

So, yes, my Dad and brother are the coalmen, Harry.

Best wishes.

One Cheetham I recall, was Owd Wack. (Domino Demon) A regular in the Crooke Hall, his bro' was killed by a horse & cart, near t'Cat in't Window school Standish
A lot of cheethams in Crooke & SLG. Did Ian play in the Crooke band? Tom (snaff), work at Johnpit Baths? Jimmy & son John connected to Crooke Band?

Hi art,

Thank you for your reply. I don't know any of the Cheethams you mentioned. I think they must have been older than I am. I am nearly 50. I never actually lived in Crooke. Only my 3 elder brothers did. I was born in Acacia Crescent, Beech Hill and moved then to Shevington.

I think the people you mentioned must be a different Cheetham family.

Best wishes from a Wiganer in exile in Germany.

Christine Reddington? You lived outside the hospital? I remember you used to work serving the doctors lunch.

I know Margret Hammond (Culshaw) very well. We go back a long time to my childhood days before I worked at Wrightington hospital.

Is this you Christine? You used to be called Reddington in those days and I believe you married John Culshaw whom I also knew well.

I even knew Mrs. Culshaw. She was a love to all of us in our childhood days.

My eldst brother, Edmund, who is Vivienne's husband, was good friends with Jimmy and John as a child.

Vivienne is not too good at the moment.

I am pleased you met our Dad. You are right he was a wealth of knowledge and a proper Wiganer. We all miss him very much indeed.

Hi Alan
I came on here looking for something completely different but I noticed you were looking for a Rackers. Now I dont know him or you and have absolutely nothing to do with Shevi. Why I replying to your message? Well I happen to be doing my family tree and am logged into genesreunited and friends reunited and thought I would have a look on there to see if alan radcliffe comes up and guess what he does. He lives in Wigan.
This is what he has written on the site

left school 1974, knocked around with puffa, simmy, bri jenkins and dek tomlinson (scoucer).started work at standish engineering with puffa, scouce(mark powers)and peter dean.now living in wigan.

Now I dont know how often he uses the site, obviously and it was last updated in nov last year.

If you are a member of friends re united you could contact him through there, if not let me know, let me have your email address and I will contact him for you if you like.

Roy lived in SLG too, next to the school, near the right hand bend, near Magnets, had a fishing shop in Standish last time I saw him.
